Outlook Venture, a subsidiary of Outlook Care, has been granted planning permission by Colchester Borough Council to build a 66-bed nursing home in the Essex town.
Building work on the Berechurch Road site is scheduled to start in February 2012. The two-storey building will provide accommodation for people requiring specialist nursing care. Once completed, the home will be handed over to Outlook Care who will take over the day-to-day management.
It is anticipated that the building’s central atrium will be a hub of activity for local people as well as residents so that it becomes very much part of the local community.
Penny Taylor, Outlook Care’s Chief Executive comments: “It’s fantastic news that by working closely in partnership with the Planning Department at Colchester Borough Council and our architect, we are creating a building that is in accord with Colchester’s heritage whilst providing a modern facility that will provide the highest of care for those living there. Over 70 new jobs will be created that will provide opportunities for local people and for other staff within Outlook Care.
“We have received overwhelming support for this project from the local MP, Essex County Council and other agencies such as Age Concern and the Essex Alzheimer’s Society.
“We are now in the process of selecting a main contractor for the work.”
